Many mature patients can enjoy the benefits of our restorative treatments such as dental Implants crowns and bridgesroot canal therapy  and  dentures. Our priority is your oral health and we will tailor our treatments to offer you and your family quality dental care.

When should I bring my child in for their first dental appointment?

At McCullough Dental Centre we love children and believe that the earlier we establish healthy and consistent relationships with our young patients the better chance they have of achieving optimal oral health for life. We usually recommend that children come to visit us at our practice around the age of three. At this point we will be able to perform assessments to determine ways that we can help your child’s oral development. We understand that going to the dentist can be a big experience for a lot of children and that is why we offer a gentle and comforting approach to dentistry.

Looking after your child’s teeth now can improve their future oral health…

Children’s teeth set the stage for adult teeth. In doing so, children’s teeth shape their mouth, strengthen the jaw as well as help to develop speech and eating patterns. When the adult teeth are ready the children’s teeth will fall out. Children have 20 teeth compared to an adult who will have 28 to 32 teeth – that is an incredible difference to accommodate.

Teaching children the fundamentals of oral health at home can reduce the chances of dental complications in the future. At McCullough Dental Centre, we find there are many ways to make oral health fun for children.

  • Choose a toothbrush with fun colours and  interesting designs such as cartoon characters. It is important to choose a brush with a small head.

  • Choose children’s toothpaste up to the age of 6 and then regular toothpaste thereafter. Use only a small amount of toothpaste (about the size of a pea) and then spit. Depending on your circumstances your dentist may suggest not to rinse.

  • Make a game out of tooth brushing and flossing to make it enjoyable for children.

  • Develop oral health habits, this will create a sense of normality when it is time for your child to clean their teeth.

Oral hygiene should not be a burden – let us make oral health fun and beneficial at McCullough Dental Centre.
